Seattle police have arrested a man in connection with a violent home invasion at the home of rapper Macklemore earlier this summer. Patrick Maisonet, 29, was taken into custody on August 21 after a raid by a King County Valley SWAT unit at his home.
Maisonet was arrested on suspicion of robbery and escape related to another break-in in the Seattle area. Charges stemming from the burglary at Macklemore's home are expected to be referred to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's office in the coming days, according to the Seattle Police Department.
The home invasion occurred on June 7, when two men armed with bear spray broke into Macklemore's residence. They assaulted a 22-year-old nanny with the spray after she discovered them. The attackers forced her to lead them to where jewellery was stored, and she complied before escaping by biting one of the robbers and running to a neighbour's house to call 911. Macklemore was not at home, but his three children were present; they were unharmed.
During the raid on Maisonet's home, investigators were led to a jewellery store in south Seattle, where a search warrant uncovered multiple stolen items, including Macklemore's Seattle Sounders championship ring and another ring. The goods stolen were valued in the thousands of dollars and included personal items described by police as “one very distinguishable Seattle Sounders ring with the owner’s name on it.” Macklemore is a minority owner of the Sounders soccer team.
