Police are investigating a dine-and-dash incident at The Oyster Shack in Bigbury, where a group of six diners allegedly left without paying a bill of nearly £600.
The incident took place on Saturday, July 25, when a party of three men and three women ordered four lobsters and a fruits de mer seafood platter. After enjoying their meal, they left one by one, reportedly escaping in a black Range Rover.
Investigation and Police Response
The restaurant's proprietor, Kieron Vanstone, said efforts to contact the diners using the phone number they provided during booking have been unsuccessful. "We've given them a deadline for response but they're still dodging our calls. We have left the matter with the police," Vanstone said.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed: "Police are aware of an incident where a number of customers left The Oyster Shack, Bigbury, without paying their bill on Saturday 25 July. Enquiries into this matter are ongoing."
Although the restaurant's CCTV was not functioning at the time, another patron managed to record the registration plate of the black Range Rover the group is believed to have used. All details have been provided to the police.
