A police investigation is under way after a luxury car was destroyed by fire in the Renfrewshire village of Kilbarchan in the early hours of Friday, 28 August.
Midnight blaze on Easwald Bank
Residents were woken by loud bangs as flames ripped through a black Range Rover just after midnight. The vehicle is understood to have been parked outside homes on Easwald Bank since April.
Fire crews and police were called to the residential street, and the fire is being treated as wilful.
Firefighters battle the flames
An image shows firefighters at the scene working to bring the blaze under control as flames completely engulfed the vehicle. Another photograph shows the burnt-out remains of the car after the fire was extinguished. The tyres were melted, and burnt debris was left scattered across the road.
One local said: “The car had been bumped up onto the kerb for months and hadn’t moved. People from the council were here a week ago to investigate after complaints were made about an abandoned vehicle.”
Another added: “I phoned the police a minute before midnight and the fire was quite small, around the driver’s-side wheel. The firefighters got here within five minutes, but it was ablaze by then.”
Emergency services respond
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 11.58pm on Thursday, 27 August to reports of a car on fire at Easwald Bank, Kilbarchan. Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting one car. There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.25am on Friday, 28 August, 2026, we received a report of a car on fire on Milliken Drive, Kilbarchan. The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and there were no reports of any injuries. The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.
