A 64-year-old man has died after he was hit by a road sweeper on Cleggs Lane in Little Hulton, Salford. The incident occurred yesterday morning at around 8am, prompting a large emergency services response. Police cordoned off the road.
Injuries and hospital death
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the pedestrian suffered serious and life-threatening injuries and died in hospital yesterday afternoon. The driver of the road sweeper, a 39-year-old man, was not injured.
Ongoing investigation
Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are continuing. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage is asked to contact police.
A similar incident occurred in October last year in Leicester, when a man in his 80s died after being hit by a road sweeper owned by Leicester City Council. A man was initially arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving but later released under investigation.
