A mother in Newton Heath has spoken out after thieves stole her baby's changing bag from her car, describing the act as the 'lowest of the low'. The incident occurred on Heathfield Street just before midnight on Saturday, July 25, and was captured on her Ring doorbell camera.
Thieves Caught on Camera
The footage shows a hooded man approaching the BMW and trying the door before entering and searching the glove box. A second thief then opens a rear door, snatches the changing bag containing nappies and formula, and attempts to open the boot. The woman, who lives with her partner, noticed the lights inside her car activate and ran downstairs to confront them. She shouted, causing the thieves to flee and drop the bag on the road.
Mother's Warning
The 22-year-old, who the Manchester Evening News is not naming, said she had inadvertently left her car unlocked after a brief outing. 'I completely forgot to lock it, thinking I would be going straight back out, but I did not,' she said. The thieves took a pair of sunglasses and a phone charger, but also tried to take the baby's changing bag. They looked in the boot, where the buggy was stored.
'Stealing from children, a baby, is the lowest of the low. It was obvious that it was a baby's changing bag. There were nappies, formula and all sorts in it,' she said. 'I just want to issue a warning really to the community to be alert.' She noted that the sunglasses had sentimental value, having traveled the world with her. The woman reported the incident to the police and posted a warning on social media for local car owners.
Police Investigation
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the report. A spokesperson for the force said enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made as yet.
