A four-week-old baby girl who was taken during a carjacking in Birmingham has been found safe and well. West Midlands Police confirmed that the infant was located in her car seat at a health centre around three miles from where the vehicle was stolen.
The incident occurred on Marie Drive in Acocks Green shortly after 16:00 BST. The mother was approached by two men as she pulled onto her driveway. As she attempted to remove her child from the car, the suspects drove off, injuring the mother's legs in the process.
The baby was discovered at Small Heath Health Centre in Chapman Road at approximately 16:45. Paramedics assessed her at the scene and found no injuries. She was taken to Heartlands Hospital, where her mother is being treated for her injuries.
Ch Insp Tony Cole praised the swift police response: 'Our primary concern was the safe return of this young child and dozens of officers, including specialist resources, were drafted into the search, which I am so pleased has resulted in her safe return.' He added that officers are determined to trace the offenders who subjected the mother to a '45-minute nightmare'.
Police believe the stolen grey Audi A3 S-line (registration BJ66 YLV) was driven towards Solihull. Another similar carjacking occurred in the Nechells area of Birmingham on Monday, but police say it is too early to confirm if the incidents are linked.
