The person behind a popular Daniel Kinahan parody account on X claims to have received death threats following the suspected cartel boss's extradition to Ireland. The account, @caughtkinahan, which has more than 150,000 followers, mostly shares pictures of women's cleavage under Kinahan's name, with a photo of him in orange prison gear as its profile picture.
Threats and defiance
On Friday, the account posted: "If I suddenly disappear I want someone to continue 'rack of the day' in my absence." Beneath the post, a screenshot showed a direct message warning: "People just a heads up. Be very careful running that account. Seriously? I'm Irish and I'm just giving you some serious advice. There could be a serious backlash over the name on this account." The sender signed off with a gun emoji and "stay safe".
The account owner replied: "Is that a feeble attempt at a threat? Not very clever laaa." They later posted: "The rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated."
Kinahan's extradition
Kinahan, 49, landed in Ireland on Sunday evening for the first time in over a decade after being arrested in Dubai. He was taken to Dublin's Special Criminal Court and charged with directing an organised crime group, then remanded to Portlaoise Prison.
He was arrested on April 17 as part of a bilateral agreement between Ireland and the United Arab Emirates. He flew on an official Irish Government jet, landing at Casement Aerodrome in Baldonnel just after 6.30pm. A heavily guarded convoy then took him to court, where he appeared at 8.10pm in a black hoodie and tracksuit bottoms.
Kinahan is due back in court on October 5, where he can attend in person or via video link.
