A homeowner has told how she was left 'shaken up' after a neighbour she had never met marched over to her house and began shouting through her door, demanding to know why she hadn't introduced herself.
In a post on Reddit, the woman explained she had bought her house about a year ago and had never officially introduced herself to the neighbours, although she had met some while doing yard work. She described herself as 'polite, quiet' and someone who minds her own business.
Unexpected confrontation
One day, a woman from across the street, whose husband she had met but who she had never seen before, knocked on her door. Initially unsure who it was, she didn't answer. The neighbour then began shouting through the door, demanding why the homeowner 'won't come to talk to her'.
The homeowner switched on her doorbell camera and spoke to the woman, explaining she couldn't come to the door at that moment. However, the neighbour launched into a verbal attack, saying they had never met, that she rarely noticed lights on in the property, and that she was concerned 'that it sits empty most days'.
'You need to move'
The woman said she was 'fairly shocked' because she had never met the neighbour and did live in the house every day. When she asked which house the neighbour was from, the neighbour became enraged, yelling about how rude it was that she never introduced herself. When the homeowner asked again which property she lived in, the neighbour shouted: 'If you don't know who I am, that's your fault and you shouldn't be here, you need to move.'
After the neighbour walked off, the homeowner was so 'shaken up' that she 'didn't go out for the rest of the day'. She noted she had spoken to the neighbour's husband on several occasions, making the situation all the more shocking and upsetting.
Attempt to smooth things over
The next day, the homeowner decided to approach the neighbour to 'smooth things over'. The neighbour was passive-aggressive but thanked her for coming over, saying that was all she had wanted. They have not seen each other in person since.
The homeowner concluded: 'I don't plan on moving any time soon, but NFH (neighbours from hell) are truly the worst and I don't enjoy my yard nor my deck anymore. Hopefully when I find the motivation to sell, I'll be able to find neighbours who aren't completely insane.'
