Eight people were rescued after a privately-owned seaplane crashed into New York City's East River on Sunday, July 5, 2026, shortly after midday. The aircraft, a Quest Kodiak 100, partially capsized with one wing submerged.
Incident Details
The seaplane was en route to the seaplane terminal on the city's east side when it crashed into the river. It had taken off from The Hamptons, an exclusive area on Long Island. The New York Fire Department confirmed that all passengers were rescued safely.
Rescue Operation
Footage showed at least five ships and one other seaplane assisting in the rescue operation between Brooklyn and Manhattan. The seaplane was towed to the docks after all passengers were brought to safety.
Injuries and Investigation
Two passengers sustained minor injuries from the incident. An investigation into the crash is ongoing, according to the police department.
Recent Similar Incident
This marks the second seaplane rescue from the East River in the past month. Earlier, a plane was struck by a wave during take-off near the Throgs Neck Bridge in Queens.
