Several sticks of viable dynamite have been discovered inside a property in Leigh, Wigan. Police were called to an address on Pennington Road at around 5.28pm on Tuesday, September 1, after a box containing what was believed to be dynamite was found.
Police and EOD attend scene
A small cordon was put in place while residents were asked to remain inside their homes as the items were assessed. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts attended the scene and confirmed the box contained several sticks of viable dynamite.
The explosives were then taken to a safe location, where controlled detonations can be carried out. Police said the discovery was made during the clearance of the property following the death of the occupant.
No wider threat indicated
There is currently no information to suggest there is any wider threat to the public or that the discovery is linked to any criminal intent, police said. Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the discovery are continuing.
