Doorbell footage has captured the moment a 'Just Eat' driver stole a child's birthday present from a doorstep in Kirkcaldy, Fife, over the weekend. The incident occurred at a flat on Dallas Drive, where the driver, who appeared to be making a takeaway delivery, turned back to take a parcel meant for a young girl.
Thief uses courier bag as decoy
In the footage, the man is seen using his orange courier bag as a decoy to stash the stolen item. The parcel, a large Frasers Plus package, had been left outside a neighbour's door. The suspect, wearing a white sports jersey with bold black writing, an unzipped black puffer jacket, black jogging bottoms, and dark trainers, is captured in clear detail as he climbs the communal stairwell.
He pauses on the landing, places the bag on the floor, unzips it, and swipes the parcel before shoving it inside and quickly leaving the building.
Father's distress over broken promise
The father of the girl whose birthday present was stolen told the Record that the incident has ruined her birthday. He said: "It's put me in a difficult position and has affected my mental health. I've broken a promise to my daughter and am struggling to replace her gift. I still need to buy something for her twin brother. I feel like I've been backed into a corner."
The father also criticized the delivery company for leaving the parcel at a neighbour's door without his consent, describing it as "an unsafe place."
Community outrage and investigation
The clip, shared on the local community Facebook group Fife Jammer Locations, garnered thousands of views and sparked outrage among locals. Comments included Debbie Millar's "Omg. I can't believe what I'm seeing," and Margaret McGarry's "I'd be raging." Tracey Philip commented "Bold as brass," while Michelle Conquer wrote "What a cheek."
Garrett Raymond added: "That's why the parcel company should never leave parcels outside. It's not a safe delivery." Campbell Syme suggested a theory that some individuals not working for Just Eat might use the bags to pick up packages, as no one questions them entering premises.
A Just Eat spokesperson said: "At Just Eat, we expect all couriers delivering on our behalf to act respectfully and responsibly at all times and we take allegations of this kind extremely seriously. We are investigating this incident and will take appropriate action based on the outcome." Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
