Nevada sheriffs are seeking the public's help to identify a man killed in an apparent homicide at the Burning Man festival. The Pershing County Sheriff's Office said the man was found dead on Saturday night in the Black Rock City encampment.
Sheriff Jerry Allen described the victim as a white male, aged 35 to 40, approximately 6 feet tall and 200 lbs, with short brown hair and facial hair. Authorities are asking for any information from people who saw or heard anything between 8pm and 9.30pm on Saturday.
A murder investigation was launched on Sunday after the man was discovered lying in a pool of blood. A festival-goer alerted a police officer that a man was found on the ground, obviously deceased. Part of the site was cordoned off as police began their investigation.
Burning Man organisers said they are cooperating with law enforcement and asked attendees not to interfere with the investigation. Sheriff Allen warned participants to remain vigilant, although the crime appears to be an isolated incident.
The festival has faced challenges in recent years, including a fatal storm in 2023 and a dust storm this year that destroyed temporary structures. Burning Man co-founder John Law recently criticised the event, calling it a 'giant party for rich white people' that has strayed from its counter-culture origins.
