A young teacher has described her devastation after callous burglars ransacked her family's London home and stole their cherished pet dog alongside valuable jewellery.
A Family Home Violated and a Cherished Pet Taken
Eliz Yusuf, aged 26, was teaching in Japan when she received the shocking news that her family's house in Palmers Green, north London, had been raided. She immediately flew home to comfort her mother. The burglary occurred on December 16 at their home on Meadowcroft Close, a quiet, leafy street.
The intruders made off with a haul of diamonds, gold coins, and medals. However, the most devastating loss was the family's nine-year-old Yorkshire Terrier Poodle, named Simba. Ms Yusuf reported the robbery to the Metropolitan Police, but nearly three weeks on, there have been no positive leads.
An Irreplaceable Bond Broken
Simba was not just a pet; he was a deeply loved member of the family. "He means the world to me. Simba was a present from my father 10 years ago," Ms Yusuf explained. The dog was a gift for her 16th birthday, making him a constant companion throughout her adult life.
"Honestly, I'd say that our lives have been turned upside down. This has been truly devastating for all of us," the English teacher stated. "We just want him back with us. He's been such a big part of my life since I was 16." She emphasised that Simba is a senior dog who needs the comfort and safety of his home.
A Desperate Plea to the Thieves
In an emotional direct appeal to the burglars, Ms Yusuf has offered to pay for Simba's safe return, prioritising his wellbeing over any questions or recriminations. "I will pay you, please just return Simba safely," she pleaded.
Friends of the family have expressed their horror at the crime. Friend Elle Mac said, "It's a horrible thing for anyone to do. It's like stealing a baby." Another added a simple, hopeful message: "Hopefully he returns home."
The Metropolitan Police have been approached for comment regarding the ongoing investigation into this distressing burglary and theft.
