Four people have died and another has been left injured after a horror crash on the A38 near Derby. Emergency crews were dispatched just before 11pm on Saturday (July 25) after a red Hyundai carrying five people left the carriageway and struck trees between the A50 Toyota Island and the A516.

Victims pronounced dead at scene and hospital

Police confirmed on Sunday that two women, aged 18 and 30, and a 36-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene. A baby girl was taken to hospital, where she later died. All four were passengers in the vehicle.

Driver arrested and under investigation

The driver, a 33-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains there. He has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. All those involved are from Leeds in West Yorkshire.

Police appeal for witnesses and dash cam footage

Officers closed the road for several hours after the crash; it has since reopened. The relatives of those involved have been notified and are being supported by specialist officers. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash cam footage is urged to contact Derbyshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 26*442464.
