A band of thieves stole $2 million worth of jewellery from a store in Seattle in a smash-and-grab robbery that lasted just 90 seconds, police have said.
The heist took place in broad daylight at around noon on Thursday. Four masked suspects used hammers to break the locked front glass door of Menashe & Sons Jewelers in West Seattle, according to the Seattle Police Department.
Inside, they smashed six glass display cases and made off with jewellery, diamonds and luxury watches. One case held between $700,000 and $800,000 in Rolex watches, another contained an emerald necklace valued at $125,000 and a platinum diamond, and two others held a large amount of gold jewellery.
During the raid, one suspect pointed bear spray and a taser at employees as three others carried out the theft. “We’re pretty shook up as a staff,” said Josh Menashe, vice president of the store. The store will remain closed until August 19 to repair damage.
The group fled in a getaway car before officers arrived and are still at large. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
