Aldi Recalls Crème Brûlée Over Glass Contamination

Aldi has issued a recall for a popular dessert across multiple U.S. states due to the potential presence of glass fragments, prompting the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to escalate the alert to a Class II recall, indicating a serious health risk.

Recall Details

According to an FDA enforcement report, more than 2,800 cases of Specially Selected Vanilla Crème Brûlée were recalled on April 14 after it was discovered that the product may contain pieces of glass. The recall was elevated to Class II on April 28, meaning consumption or use of the affected items could lead to significant adverse health consequences.

The dessert, packaged in 3.6-ounce glass jars, was sold at Aldi locations in seven states: Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, New York, and Virginia. The affected products, manufactured by Lactalis Canada, carry a use-by date of May 9, 2026, product number 710298-4099100342826, and barcode number 4099100342826.

Consumer Guidance

Although no illnesses have been reported to date, Aldi is urging customers to either discard the crème brûlée immediately or return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund. This recall is part of a broader trend of food safety alerts in recent weeks.

Related Recalls and Alerts

Last week, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert for meat and poultry products containing FDA-regulated ingredients formulated with dry milk powder. The dairy-based ingredient was potentially contaminated with salmonella, a bacterium that causes food poisoning.

As a result, two pizza products sold at Aldi stores nationwide were recalled: Mama Cozzi’s Biscuit Crust Sausage & Cheese Breakfast Pizza and Biscuit Crust Cooked Pork Belly Crumbles, Cooked Bacon Topping, Pepper & Onion Breakfast Pizza. Additionally, three Great Value frozen pizzas sold at Walmart were recalled: Thin Crust Chicken Bacon Ranch, Ultra Thin Crust Chicken Bacon Ranch, and Stuffed Crust Chicken Bacon Ranch.

This week, Costco also recalled a Giovanni Rana pasta item labeled as Rustic Beef Sauce & Creamy Burrata Cheese Ravioli, as some batches contained shrimp filling in lobster sauce instead. The labeling error poses a serious allergic reaction risk for individuals with crustacean shellfish allergies.
