In a major counter-terrorism operation, three men have been arrested on suspicion of planning acts of terrorism following coordinated raids in three English cities.
Officers from the North East Counter Terrorism Policing unit executed warrants at addresses in Leeds, Huddersfield, and Derby in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The suspects, aged 29, 26, and 25, were detained under the Terrorism Act 2000 and remain in custody for questioning.
Coordinated Early Morning Raids
The operation, which involved armed officers and specialist search teams, was the culmination of a prolonged and intelligence-led investigation. While no further details of the alleged plot have been disclosed, the arrests are connected to suspected Islamist-related terrorism.
A property in the Harehills area of Leeds was one of the primary targets, with a significant police presence cordoning off the scene for forensic examination. Similar searches are ongoing at the other addresses.
Public Reassurance and Ongoing Vigilance
Authorities have moved to reassure the public, stating there is no immediate wider threat. A spokesperson for Counter Terrorism Policing North East confirmed the operation's success, noting: "These arrests were made as a result of ongoing and proactive work by counter-terrorism policing and its partners to keep the public safe from terrorism."
They further emphasised that such investigations are complex and that officers are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of local communities across the UK. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any concerns to the police.
