An alleged plan by an 18-year-old woman from North Carolina to carry out a mass-casualty attack at a Houston synagogue was foiled following a tip to law enforcement, authorities have confirmed.
Arrest and Charges
Angelina Hicks, 18, of Lexington, was arrested in Davidson County on April 22 and now faces felony conspiracy charges, including conspiracy to commit murder. Investigators allege that Hicks conspired with two individuals, identified as "Teegan" and "Angel," as well as an unnamed 16-year-old in Harris County, Texas, who has also been charged with conspiracy to commit capital murder.
Details of the Alleged Plot
According to court documents, the plan involved driving through a congregation at Congregation Beth Israel in Houston on April 21, 2028, with the intent to kill as many Jewish people as possible. Evidence recovered from Hicks' home reportedly included materials pointing to the plot, such as maps and communications outlining the attack.
Family Disputes Allegations
Hicks' parents have disputed the allegations, claiming that their daughter's online activity was merely role-play and fantasy, not a genuine plan. They maintain that she lacked the means and capability to execute such an attack. However, law enforcement officials assert that the evidence suggests a credible threat, and the investigation is ongoing.
The case highlights the continued vigilance required to prevent targeted attacks on religious institutions, with authorities emphasizing the importance of public tips in disrupting potential tragedies.
