Four people have been detained by specialist counter-terrorism officers in a significant operation across Sussex. The arrests, which took place on Thursday, 4th December 2025, are linked to an investigation into extreme right-wing terrorism.
Details of the Arrests
The operation was led by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE). A 27-year-old woman from Hailsham was arrested alongside three men from Eastbourne, aged 33, 36 and 41. All four were detained under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000, which grants police the power to arrest individuals suspected of involvement in terrorism without a warrant.
The arrests were described as part of a planned, intelligence-led operation. Following the detentions, police conducted searches at a number of residential properties in the areas connected to the investigation. All four individuals remain in police custody for questioning.
Police Reassure Local Communities
Sussex Police Assistant Chief Constable Steve Rayland addressed potential public concern following the high-profile operation. He emphasised that the activity was a planned move designed to ensure public safety.
“I am aware that investigations of this nature can cause people in the local community to feel concerned,” ACC Rayland stated. “But I’d like to stress the arrests form part of a planned operation to keep people in our communities safe.”
Ongoing Investigation
The operation underscores the continued focus of UK counter-terrorism units on threats from all ideologies. While the suspects are held for questioning, the investigation remains active. Further updates from CTPSE are expected as the situation develops.
