Woman gang-raped in moving car in India: police

A 20-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by two men inside a moving car in Madhya Pradesh, India, according to police. The attack reportedly took place on the 33-mile road from Ujjain to Indore, after which the victim was abandoned near Aurobindo Hospital in Indore.

Details of the alleged attack

The woman told police she reached Ujjain by bus and got into a car with a man she had befriended on Instagram and had met earlier. The Ujjain City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Shweta Gupta told reporters that the woman said she entered the car outside the Meghdoot Hotel around 7.30pm on Monday, October 26, and was given a drink that resembled coffee.

CSP Gupta said the woman told officers that another man joined them in the car. After the alleged sexual assault, the accused abandoned her near Aurobindo Hospital, CSP Gupta said.

Police response and investigation

The victim phoned her friend, who then took her to the police station in Nanakheda around 30 miles away, where officers registered a case against two men for gang rape and wrongful confinement. According to the Wio News site, police are investigating where the attack was carried out.

“The woman reached Nanakheda police station in Ujjain around midnight on Monday and submitted a written complaint,” Gupta added. Before going to police, the woman shared a video in which she claimed she had been attacked by five men and that a plastic rod had been inserted into her private parts.

However, CSP Gupta said that the medical examination did not confirm any injury to her private part or vital organs.
