Four men allegedly forced their way into a house in India, threatened a family with a rifle and gang-raped a woman, police have said. Three of the accused have been arrested while the fourth remains at large.
Attack in Bhitarwar, Gwalior
The attack occurred in Bhitarwar, Gwalior on May 9, but the woman did not report it at the time, reportedly out of fear of the perpetrators and social stigma. Police said she later drank pesticide and was taken to hospital.
She then told her family about the alleged assault, prompting a complaint to be filed at Bhitarwar police station on Sunday night.
Threats and arrests
According to officers, the men threatened to kill family members if the woman raised the alarm or spoke about the incident. Three of them allegedly took her to a nearby enclosure where she was sexually assaulted.
A case has been registered against all four under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Three were arrested on Monday and efforts continue to locate the remaining suspect.
