A wedding guest who harassed two women in a hotel room has been added to the sex offenders register. Conor Meechan, 34, from Pollok, Glasgow, admitted to sexually assaulting the women by kissing them and making inappropriate comments at Crossbasket Castle, a luxury venue near Blantyre.
Incident Details
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that Meechan entered the women's room around 11 p.m. on June 28 last year. He told the women they were "pretty" and "gorgeous," and stated he "had a thing for redheads." Prosecuting lawyer Cameron Murdoch explained that Meechan sat next to one woman, asked her name, and kissed her on the cheek as she turned away. The woman felt frightened, fearing further sexual acts.
Meechan then turned to the second woman, who politely engaged with him. He continued making sexual comments, expressing attraction to redheads. He kissed the first woman on the back of her hand, again causing fear. When the second woman mentioned she was engaged, Meechan replied, "Oh s***. Are you?" He then said he would return later and winked, making both women uncomfortable. He subsequently kissed the second woman on the cheek before leaving for his adjacent room.
Aftermath and Court Proceedings
The incident was reported to a senior hotel staff member, who confronted Meechan. He claimed, "I've not done anything wrong. I've only had three beers." He was told his behavior was unacceptable and was removed from the venue.
Sheriff Thomas Millar deferred sentencing for background reports, electronic tagging assessment, and a risk evaluation. Meechan remains on bail.
