Two men have been arrested after a young woman was allegedly gang-raped while on an outing with a male friend in Indian-administered Kashmir. The attack was filmed and later shown to others, police said.
Details of the Attack
The alleged assault took place on July 3 in the Baramulla district, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh. The woman said she had gone to a picnic spot in the Jalsheeri Drangbal area with a male friend when two men accosted them. The men assaulted her friend, forcing him to flee, before sexually assaulting her and recording the act.
Investigation and Arrests
Singh said the victim initially knew the accused only by their first names, making the investigation challenging. However, using technical evidence, scientific methods, and human intelligence, police identified the suspects. Both were arrested on Monday and have allegedly confessed to the crime, Singh told reporters.
The mobile phone used to record the assault has also been recovered. Police are collecting scientific, medical, and digital evidence, and have taken the accused to the crime scene to reconstruct events.
Victim Safety
The victim was initially reluctant to report the attack due to threats from the accused, but after coming forward, police formed a team to ensure her safety. The two men remain in custody as investigations continue.
