Three men have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in Odisha's Sundargarh district. The arrests were made within hours of the complaint being filed, police confirmed on Wednesday.
Incident Details
The assault occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Talasara village, under the Dharuadihi Police Station limits. According to the police complaint, the victim had gone to an open area near a riverbank at around 3:30 PM when she was approached and allegedly overpowered by three men, all residents of the same village.
The girl returned home and informed her family, leading her mother to file a complaint at the Dharuadihi Police Station at approximately 7:00 PM that evening.
Swift Police Response
After the complaint was lodged, the Superintendent of Police personally spoke to the victim, visited the crime scene, and directed immediate action. Multiple teams were formed to trace the accused. Under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), coordinated operations involving officers from Dharuadihi and nearby police stations led to the apprehension of all three suspects by 9:30 PM.
The formal registration of the case was completed later at 11:36 PM. The accused have been taken into custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated.
Investigation and Support
Police stated that an investigation is underway, including the collection of forensic and other corroborative evidence. Authorities have ensured that the victim receives medical assistance and ongoing psychological support.
