Three elderly individuals have been arrested in connection with what police describe as "non-recent" child sex abuse at two former children's care homes in Bradford.
Elderly Trio Arrested in Nationwide Operation
Two men aged 83 and 86, along with an 83-year-old woman, were detained during coordinated arrests at addresses in Cumbria and Kent on Tuesday. All three suspects have been released on bail pending further investigations into allegations spanning several decades.
Historic Abuse Uncovered at Former Care Facilities
The investigation centres on reports of cruelty and sexual abuse committed against eight victims who were between five and 17 years old at the time. The offences are alleged to have occurred during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s at two specific locations.
The facilities involved were Burley in Wharfedale Assessment Centre on Station Road and Brunswick Road Children's care home on Brunswick Road. Both establishments have since ceased operations, but the legacy of what allegedly occurred within their walls continues to be investigated by specialist officers.
Police Commitment to Investigating Historical Offences
Detective Chief Inspector Vicky Greenbank of Bradford District Police emphasised the force's determination to pursue such cases regardless of when they occurred. "Protecting and safeguarding children is a top priority for West Yorkshire Police," she stated.
"This operation forms part of our ongoing commitment to investigate both current and non-recent sexual offences against children," DCI Greenbank added, describing child sexual abuse and exploitation as "an abhorrent crime" that affects "some of the most vulnerable people in our society."
The police have made a direct appeal to potential victims and witnesses, assuring them that they will be listened to and believed. Authorities are particularly keen to hear from anyone with information about incidents at the specified locations.
