Thomas Markle Sr., 82, the estranged father of Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, has been arrested and charged with federal offences related to the possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). He is scheduled to appear in court in Tampa, Florida on Friday afternoon.

Arrest and Custody

Markle was taken into custody on Friday morning by the FBI at a care facility in Lakeland, Florida. Because of his medical conditions, including limited mobility, he was seen being handcuffed in a wheelchair before being transferred onto a stretcher and taken by ambulance to a detention facility ahead of his court appearance.

Multi-Country Investigation

The investigation spans multiple countries, including the United States, the Philippines, and Mexico. The case reportedly began after his son, Thomas Markle Jr., claimed to have discovered suspected illegal material left behind at his father's former residence in Cebu City, Philippines, prompting local authorities to open an inquiry.

Law enforcement agencies subsequently searched multiple properties linked to Markle, including storage units and properties in Rosarito, Mexico. The searches led to the seizure of computers, phones, and digital media for forensic evaluation.

Denials and Family Response

Markle previously strongly denied the allegations prior to his arrest, calling them false and claiming he had been framed. In statements regarding the ongoing reports, representatives for Meghan Markle noted that she has long been estranged from her father and expressed distress over the allegations.
