Teen Sexually Assaulted in Springburn Park, Glasgow

A 16-year-old girl was pushed into bushes and sexually attacked by a man in Springburn Park, Glasgow, on the evening of June 26, 2026. Police Scotland is investigating the serious sexual assault, which occurred between 8:30pm and 9:15pm.

Details of the Attack

The victim was walking near the Moongate on the north east side of the park when a man approached and assaulted her. The suspect is described as having a tanned complexion, possibly European, of average height and build, and aged in his 30s. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a black lightweight jacket, and black trousers.

Detective Inspector Sharon McPeake stated: “This was an extremely shocking incident on a young victim who continues to receive dedicated support from specialist officers. It is crucial we identify the man responsible and we are appealing for the public’s help with our enquiries.”

Police Appeal

Police are urging anyone who was in Springburn Park that evening to come forward, particularly those who may have seen the suspect or captured him on CCTV, doorbell, or dash-cam footage. “Think back, were you in Springburn Park on this day? Did you notice anyone of this description or anyone acting suspicious?” added DI McPeake.

Local Area Commander Chief Inspector Mhairi Crawford reassured the community: “We understand this is a concerning incident for the local community and I’d like to reassure the public that there will be an increased visible police presence in the area. Officers will be carrying out dedicated pro-active patrols and will look to engage with park visitors, local groups and residents.”

Related Incident in Lockerbie

Separately, a 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a sexual assault in Lockerbie. The incident occurred around 7:10pm on June 27, 2026, when a 30-year-old woman was walking on Dumfries Road and was approached and sexually assaulted. The suspect was released pending a report to the Procurator Fiscal.

Inspector Garry Mitchell said: “I would like to thank the community for their information which has resulted in an arrest being made. The response from the public was overwhelming and I am grateful for the assistance provided. We will work tirelessly to ensure anyone engaged in criminal activity is brought to justice.”
