Police in India are investigating after a 19-year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by a group of men on motorbikes. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday in Talasari taluka of Palghar district, Maharashtra, west India.
Alleged assault details
According to local reports, the woman was standing on a highway with friends when six men, travelling on two motorcycles, took her to a disused bungalow and sexually assaulted her. A case has been registered against the six accused, with one reportedly arrested and three others detained.
Ongoing investigation
Investigators are actively searching for the other suspects, according to Indian broadcaster NDTV. The development comes as police in Punjab, north-west India, investigate a separate case involving a 16-year-old schoolgirl allegedly abducted and gang-raped twice in two days last week.
The girl was reportedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted while walking to school in Zirakpur. Officials said the alleged attacks occurred after the girl repeatedly rejected a stalker's demands for a relationship, local reports say. Investigators are said to be reviewing CCTV footage along the route from the girl's home to her school to identify the suspect vehicle and find the three accused.
