A Syrian national seeking asylum in Britain has been handed a significant prison sentence for a brutal late-night attack that saw him follow a woman from a nightclub before subjecting her to a horrifying sexual assault.
The Night That Turned to Terror
What began as an ordinary night out with friends descended into unimaginable horror for one woman when she left a central London nightclub alone. Unbeknownst to her, 29-year-old Rami Al Jamal had been watching her movements and began to follow her through the streets of Westminster.
The court heard how Al Jamal seized his opportunity when the victim reached her accommodation, forcing his way inside before launching his vicious attack.
A Brutal Assault Unfolds
Prosecutors detailed the chilling sequence of events that unfolded in the early hours of the morning. The attacker first strangled the woman into submission before sexually assaulting her in what judges described as a premeditated and calculated attack.
"This was a sustained and terrifying ordeal for the victim," the prosecution stated during sentencing. "She genuinely feared for her life during the prolonged assault."

Al Jamal, whose asylum status in the UK was pending at the time of the attack, showed little remorse throughout the legal proceedings. The court heard compelling evidence including CCTV footage that captured him following the victim and forensic evidence linking him directly to the crime.
Judge Rebecca Maltby QC delivered a stern sentence, emphasizing the premeditated nature of the attack and the lasting trauma inflicted upon the victim. "You identified a vulnerable woman and deliberately followed her with the intention of committing sexual violence," she stated during sentencing.
