Ex-School Worker Sent 11-Year-Old Boy 5,000 Texts Before Assault
School worker sent boy 5,000 texts before sex assault

A former school administrative assistant in the United States is facing a potential life sentence after being found guilty of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy, following a campaign of grooming that involved thousands of text messages and gifts.

The Systematic Grooming of a Child

Alyson Cranick, 44, a married mother-of-two, used text messages and social media platforms like Snapchat to befriend the child. Court documents reveal that when she discovered a family member was monitoring the boy's social media accounts, she coerced him to move their conversations to the more covert messaging platform, Discord.

Between July and October 2022, Cranick sent the boy a staggering over 4,700 messages on Discord. The manipulation escalated as she began giving him gifts, including AirPods and a pellet gun, to secure his trust and cooperation.

Midnight Meetings and Explicit Conduct

Officials stated that Cranick coaxed the young victim to sneak out of his home after midnight on multiple occasions in 2022. She would then drive him to various locations.

During these clandestine meetings, which occurred 11 times, Cranick made the boy “engage in sexually explicit conduct with her” inside her car. Shockingly, she also provided him with caffeinated drinks to ensure he stayed awake during the late-night encounters.

In a particularly disturbing gesture detailed in an arrest warrant, Cranick made the child a bracelet inscribed with “BFFLWB,” an acronym for “Best Friends for Life With Benefits.”

Arrest, Charges, and Fallout

The abuse eventually came to light when the child stopped responding to Cranick's messages after she allegedly “emotionally manipulated him into spending more time with her.”

Cranick was arrested on November 14, 2023, on related state charges and has been detained since November 28 of that year. She was subsequently fired from her position as an administrative assistant at E.O. Smith High School in Mansfield, Connecticut.

The case was elevated to the federal level, with charges filed in July 2024. The investigation was a joint effort by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force and the Connecticut State Police's Eastern District Major Crime Unit.

Alyson Cranick is now due to be sentenced on February 12, 2026. She faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, but could potentially be imprisoned for life.
