Thames Valley Police has released CCTV footage of a male cyclist as part of an investigation into the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl and the sexual assault of another girl of the same age in Oxford.
The two victims were in Florence Park when they got into conversation with four males they did not know. Two of the males then went with the girls to Marsh Park, where the alleged attack took place in a secluded wooded area.
Police said one of the victims was raped by one of the males and the other was sexually assaulted by the other male. Both girls left the park and contacted the police.
CCTV appeal and investigation details
The incident took place on July 28 between 5.15pm and 6pm. Officers have released a CCTV image of a male on a bike and are looking to speak to him in connection with the incident.
Detective Constable Sarah Tibble said a number of enquiries have already taken place, including forensic examinations and searches of the parks, taking statements from the victims and witnesses, and undertaking ID parades.
A 20-year-old man from Oxford was arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault but has been released on police bail with conditions until January 14. A boy was also arrested in connection with the investigation, but following further enquiries it was established he was not involved and he was released without charge.
Police appeal for information
DC Tibble said: "I am releasing a CCTV image of a male who I believe may have vital information that can progress our investigation.
"As part of our thorough investigation we have carried out forensic examinations and searches at the parks, supported and taken statements from the victims and other witnesses, undertaken phone enquiries, carried out CCTV enquiries, undertaken ID parades, worked directly with local communities to identify several potential witnesses, and made two arrests.
"However, we have been unable to identify this male, who we believe may have information. If you are the male, know who he is, have seen him or have any other information please contact the force."
