A 26-year-old Algerian man already in custody for beating a stranger into a coma has been accused of raping a homeless woman in her tent on the two nights before the attack, Spanish police say.
Said Leksili, who entered Spain illegally in 2020 and has no legal right to remain, is alleged to have carried out a three-day rampage in Valencia that began with sexual assaults on July 22 and 23 and ended with a near-fatal street attack on July 24.
Alleged assaults
According to the Policía Nacional account reported by Cadena SER, the woman was sleeping in a tent on vacant land when Leksili entered without consent and used force against her. She resisted strongly enough to prevent penetration on the first night. He returned the following night, attacked her more aggressively and this time raped her. On both occasions, he allegedly threatened to kill her if she went to the authorities.
The woman initially stayed silent but later sought hospital treatment. Valencia’s UFAM unit for family and women opened an investigation and identified the suspect. Officers then discovered he was already behind bars.
Street attack
On the day in question, on Calle Ingeniero José Sirera in the San Marcelino district, Leksili became involved in an argument after residents complained about his behaviour. The 47-year-old victim, named in Spanish media as Arturo C, did not know him.
Video recorded at the scene shows the suspect repeatedly punching and kicking the man after he fell, including blows to the head. Arturo, who already had one arm in a cast, was left unconscious and taken to hospital with severe head and chest trauma, broken ribs and facial injuries.
Detention and investigation
Leksili was arrested shortly afterwards and placed in provisional detention on suspicion of attempted homicide. When questioned, he reportedly spoke only through his lawyer, saying he had been drinking heavily and remembered nothing.
UFAM officers later went to the prison to inform him he was also under investigation for the alleged rapes.
Spanish outlets report that Leksili had been detained 18 times since arriving in Spain, including six arrests for violent offences in Valencia over the previous three years — three for bodily harm and three for violent robbery.
He is said to have used two identities, one Algerian and one presenting him as Moroccan. Social media and some Spanish reporting claimed he was subject to a final deportation order that was never enforced; other accounts described an unresolved expulsion proceeding.
