Miah Fox Kaur, 31, was woken by police on May 7, 2025, who searched her Edinburgh flat and arrested her boyfriend Greig Burns, 38, for having "evidence he had inappropriate communications involving a child".
Burns, who worked as a senior threat analyst, was taken to the station and spent nine hours there. Miah, a finance worker, was held under caution for two-and-a-half hours. She initially defended him, telling officers: "Greig would not harm a fly - something is wrong here."
The relationship
Miah met Greig on Hinge in September 2024, describing it as the "classic love story". She said: "He said and did all the right things, it was genuinely the feeling of 'Oh my god, I have met my soulmate'." They had plans to visit Edinburgh Zoo to see a pygmy hippo that Greig had adopted for her birthday.
On the morning of the police raid, Miah was dozing when she heard a loud knock. The officers told her they had a search warrant because of evidence of inappropriate communications involving a child. Miah said: "That is the worst possible thing that anyone can do. The world fell apart for me."
The messages and guilty plea
After his arrest, Burns told Miah what he had done. She said: "When he told me why he had been arrested, I couldn't even look at him. He promised that he was going to get therapy." Miah continued the relationship until October 2025, when she moved out after reading the messages herself.
On April 24, 2026, at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, Greig Burns pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, sending sexually written communications to someone called "Mandy" – actually an undercover police officer – describing the sexual assault and rape of children, and making arrangements to meet her between November 2024 and January 2025.
He received a community payback order and was ordered to undertake 200 hours of unpaid work.
Miah said: "I would be lying if I said that he hasn't shown any remorse. But he is out there living his life, getting on with life as if nothing happened. At the end of the day, he was messaging a woman about sexually assaulting a child - that is not OK."
