Men arrested after woman gang raped and robbed at knifepoint

The alleged attack happened on the morning of July 30, after the car a couple were travelling in crashed near Kikuyu Boys High School in Kikuyu, Kenya.

The suspects allegedly approached the vehicle after the collision, pretending to offer help. Police said they then threatened the couple with a knife before raping the woman and robbing them of money. The alleged attackers then fled the scene.

Arrests after investigation

Two men were arrested on Friday, July 31, following an investigation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters' Operations Action Team (OAT), the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and Kikuyu detectives. Police said the suspects had stolen the couple's bank cards and withdrawn cash from their accounts before the alleged sexual assault.

Detectives carried out forensic analysis and interviewed witnesses to identify the suspects. Mobile phones allegedly stolen from the victims were also recovered before the arrests were made.

Charges and police appeal

The two men remain in custody and will face court at a later date. They will face charges of robbery with violence, contrary to Section 296(2) of the Penal Code, and gang rape, contrary to Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act, 2006.

Local police believe the suspects may be linked to other violent robberies and sexual offences in the area. Officers are continuing to investigate the alleged attack and are appealing to the public for any relevant information.
