A man has told a court he felt his 'manhood' had been taken away after discovering his Snapchat date was transgender, the Teesside Crown Court heard. The pair met on the photo-sharing app and later engaged in sexual activity at a home in Thornaby. The defendant, Ciara Watkin, allegedly concealed the fact she had male genitalia.
The alleged victim said in a police interview that Watkin 'made out she was fully a girl' throughout their encounter. He claimed she told him she was on her period and asked for the bathroom light to be switched off. Watkin later messaged him, admitting she had a 'massive secret' and revealing: 'I'm trans. I'm sorry I didn't tell you.'
The man told officers: 'If I knew she had a penis I wouldn't have got with her. I didn't swing that way.' He said the discovery made him feel like his 'manhood' had been taken and that he had an 'emotional breakdown'. Watkin, 21, of Queen's Avenue, Thornaby, denies two counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual assault by penetration.
The defence, led by Victoria Lamballe, said Watkin had no gender reassignment surgery and had stuffed clothing in her bra. When arrested, Watkin told police: 'Me and him had sex without me telling him I was a boy. When I let him know I was a different gender, he didn't like it.' The trial continues.
