A 63-year-old man from Liverpool has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a patient at Whiston Hospital in the early hours of Friday, 3 July 2026. Merseyside Police confirmed they received a report of the alleged assault just before 3:55am. The suspect was taken into custody and a police investigation is now underway.
Police presence at the hospital
Witnesses reported a heavy police presence at the hospital earlier today. The Liverpool ECHO observed a police van in the hospital car park at around 3pm. Officers were described as being "all over" a section of the hospital following the incident.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson urged anyone who has been a victim of sexual offences to come forward. "If you have been a victim of sexual offence or have concerns for someone you know, call 101 where you will be spoken to by specially trained officers. In an emergency, always call 999," the spokesperson said. Victims can also report anonymously via the police website or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
