Maesteg man jailed for abusing girls over 30 years

Christopher Williams, a 73-year-old pensioner from Maesteg, has been jailed for 11 years and nine months after admitting a series of sexual offences against young girls spanning three decades.

Williams pleaded guilty to charges including nine counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14, two counts of inciting a girl under 14 to commit an act of gross indecency, one count of penetrative sexual activity with a girl under 13, one count of non-penetrative sexual activity with a girl under 13, one count of attempting to have sexual intercourse with a girl under 13, and one count of indecent assault on a woman over 16.

Investigation and sentencing

The offences, which involved multiple victims, were uncovered following a South Wales Police investigation. Williams appeared before Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday, October 21, where he was jailed and handed a restraining order.

Detective Constable Benjamin Lewis praised the victims, saying: “It took an unbelievable amount of strength and courage for Christopher Williams’ victims to confide in someone else about the crimes he carried out upon them, especially with so many years having passed in between.”

Justice served

Lewis added: “This was a long and complex investigation which has finally resulted in Williams being brought to justice, and the severity of his offending is reflected in the size of his sentence.”

Williams' crimes were brought to light thanks to the “unbelievable strength and courage” of his victims, who confided in others about what he had done.
