Jared Leto has been accused of criminal sexual conduct by four women, who claim the alleged offences happened when they were teenagers, according to a new BBC documentary. The actor, known for roles in Requiem for a Dream, Suicide Squad, and Fight Club, as well as fronting Thirty Seconds to Mars, is the subject of Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret, available on iPlayer.
Allegations Detailed
One woman alleges she was sexually assaulted in a motel bathroom when she was 17. A second alleges Leto threatened her with sexual assault when she was 19 and left alone with him in a hotel room. A third woman claims Leto had under-age sex with her in California when she was 17, which would be classified as statutory rape. She says Leto “shrugged off” a conversation about the age of consent being 18 in that state.
A fourth woman alleges she was groomed by Leto and that he abused his celebrity status by making explicit phone calls to her repeatedly when she was 16, allegedly suggesting they have sex during one call. The BBC reported: “She was subsequently sent a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to prevent her from talking about her relationship with Leto, which the BBC has seen. However, she refused to sign.”
Further Accusations
Four additional women have alleged they had unusual and often sexual phone calls from Leto when they were younger. Another woman claims that when she was 14, Leto told a security guard to take her backstage at a music festival after making a crude comment about her chest during an autograph signing. Her mother reportedly confronted Leto, but he allegedly repeated the comment.
In total, ten women spoke to the BBC documentary, which states: “A BBC documentary has uncovered allegations of criminal sexual conduct by multiple women at the hands of Oscar-winning actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto. All were teenagers at the time of the alleged offences.” The documentary adds that four of five additional women, aged between 16 and 18, said the star abused his celebrity status to get their phone numbers, and that many of his repeated calls were sexually explicit.
