A gym cleaner who hid his phone to spy on women while they showered has been jailed for four and a half years. Lee Drury, 35, concealed his mobile in a roof space at Snap Fitness in Tonbridge, Kent, on June 19, 2023, until a victim spotted it and reported him to staff.
Drury, who had worked at the gym for only a few months, was challenged after the woman took pictures of the device. Police arrested him, and a forensic download of his phone revealed he had accessed a camera app at the time of the incident. Officers also found an indecent image of a child in the most serious category.
Further investigation led to the seizure of another phone containing additional indecent images. Drury denied the charges and was granted bail, but he committed further offences in August 2024 by contacting someone he believed to be a 14-year-old child, sending explicit messages and pornographic content.
At Maidstone Crown Court, Drury was convicted of voyeurism and two counts of making indecent images of a child. He had previously pleaded guilty to attempted sexual communication with a child, attempting to cause a child to watch sexual activity, and attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.
On September 4, Drury, from Wrotham, Kent, was sentenced to four years and six months in prison. He was also made subject to a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Detective Constable Natalie Armstrong said: 'Drury was a registered sex offender who has gone on to violate what should have been a safe and private space for women. His determination to groom children shows no understanding of his actions.'
