A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a family friend who picked her up on the way home from school in the Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh, India, on Tuesday (August 11). The accused, who has not been named, met the girl and her 11-year-old brother and offered to give them a lift home on his motorbike.
Attack in secluded spot
Instead of taking them home, the suspect took the children to a secluded spot behind a school, where he allegedly committed the assault. Local media reported that the man had spotted cattle herders as he rode towards fields on the outskirts of a village before heading for the bushes.
Brother attacked, girl unconscious
Police in India said the girl's brother was thrashed when he tried to rescue his sister, according to The Times of India. The alleged attacker fled, leaving the children behind. When the girl fell unconscious, her brother raced home to alert their family.
Family reports to police
Relatives took the girl to hospital and reported the alleged rape to the police.
