Fred and Rose spans three episodes and can be watched on STV Player at no cost. The documentary charts the infamous relationship and killings of the couple, who committed at least twelve murders between 1967 and 1987 in Gloucestershire, as well as the events leading to their capture.
The series begins with the early lives of Fred and Rose West, showing how they became murderers. It then covers the 'house of horrors' at 25 Cromwell Street in Gloucester, where most of their crimes took place, and details their killing spree and eventual capture.
Background and reception
First released in November 2014, the mini-series offers a comprehensive insight into Britain's most prolific serial killers and how their crimes went unnoticed for decades. On IMDb, one reviewer said: “WOW! This doco [sic] is the most comprehensive overview of the murderous Fred and Rosemary West ever!” They added: “This film is so creepy you will need a shower when it is over.”
The documentary is not the only one to cover these crimes. Netflix released Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story, featuring over 50 hours of newly surfaced police audio and video tapes. In 2021, ITV aired Fred and Rose West: Reopened, with Sir Trevor McDonald re-examining the case and looking into potential undiscovered victims.
