Four women have accused singer and actor Jared Leto of criminal sexual conduct over alleged offences that took place when they were teenagers. The women speak out in the new BBC documentary Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret, detailing their alleged experiences with the 30 Seconds To Mars lead singer.
Allegations detailed in the documentary
One woman claims she was 17 when she was sexually assaulted in a motel bathroom by Leto. Another alleges she was threatened with sexual assault when alone in a hotel room with him at age 19. A third woman claims she was 17 when she had under-age sex with him in California, where the age of consent is 18. A fourth woman alleges she was groomed by Leto, describing his sexually explicit phone calls to her when she was 16. She claims he suggested they should have sex on at least one occasion and that she was asked to sign an NDA, seen by the BBC, but she refused.
Broader scope of allegations
A total of 10 women have spoken to the BBC for the documentary, some making allegations about incidents that took place when they were as young as 14, between 2002 and 2016. One alleged victim stated: 'This was 25 years ago… he has gotten away with it.' A couple of men who worked with Leto's band alleged that Leto would occasionally invite teenage girls backstage or to his dressing room, sometimes to his house where he was recording. One commented: 'I think everyone thought the age gap was way too big.'
Leto's career and previous denials
Jared Leto, 54, is also an actor, winning the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2014 for his role in Dallas Buyers Club. He famously played the Joker in Suicide Squad. In 2025, Leto denied allegations of sexual misconduct after multiple accusations. An investigation by Air Mail magazine claimed nine women had accused the star of 'behaving inappropriately' when they were in their teens.
