Predatory Deliveroo Rider Jailed for Brutal Attack on Young Doctor After Fake Order
Fake Deliveroo rider guilty of raping doctor

A vicious predator who exploited his position as a food delivery rider to prey on a young medic has been found guilty of a horrific sexual assault in Manchester city centre.

Mohammed Istiak Mahbub, 24, posed as a legitimate Deliveroo courier to gain access to the junior doctor's apartment building before subjecting her to a brutal attack that has left lasting psychological scars.

The Deceptive Delivery

The court heard how Mahbub orchestrated a sophisticated ruse, arriving at the victim's city centre residence claiming to have a food delivery. When the 24-year-old doctor opened her door, Mahbub forced his way inside her flat and carried out the violent assault.

Manchester Crown Court was told the victim had been expecting a genuine delivery, making Mahbub's deception particularly calculating and predatory in nature.

Swift Police Investigation

Greater Manchester Police launched an immediate investigation following the attack in October 2022. Through meticulous detective work and forensic analysis, officers were able to identify and apprehend Mahbub within days of the incident.

Detective Constable Sarah Smithers of GMP's Public Protection Division praised the victim's bravery throughout the investigation, stating: "This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim, who has shown immense courage from the moment she reported the crime through to the trial conclusion."

Career and Life Destroyed

The impact on the young doctor's life has been devastating. The court heard how the trauma forced her to abandon her medical career and relocate from Manchester, with the psychological damage affecting every aspect of her daily life.

"She is no longer able to work as a doctor, a career she had studied and worked tirelessly for," the prosecution told the court, highlighting the profound consequences of Mahbub's actions.

Justice Served

Following a trial at Manchester Crown Court, Mahbub was found guilty of rape and sexual assault. He now awaits sentencing scheduled for late May, where he faces a substantial prison term for his crimes.

Police have urged anyone who has experienced similar offences to come forward, assuring victims that they will be believed and supported throughout the investigative process.
