Three Dundee men have been handed lengthy prison terms for the systematic grooming and sexual abuse of a vulnerable teenage girl in what prosecutors described as a "calculated and predatory" operation.
Ibrahim Al-Mainar, 25, received an 8-year sentence while co-accused Mohammed Zaman, 23, was jailed for 6 years and 9 months. A third perpetrator, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced to 4 years in a young offenders institution.
Pattern of Exploitation
The court heard how the men identified and targeted their victim, then subjected her to repeated sexual assaults and rape between December 2021 and March 2022. The abuse occurred at multiple locations across Dundee, with the men working together to facilitate the exploitation.
Judge Lord Richardson condemned the "degrading and humiliating" treatment of the teenager, stating the men had shown "no remorse" for their actions throughout the legal proceedings.
Police Investigation and Evidence
Police Scotland's dedicated investigation uncovered compelling evidence including CCTV footage, mobile phone data, and forensic evidence that documented the systematic nature of the abuse.
Detective Inspector David Wight of Police Scotland's National Child Abuse Investigation Unit praised the victim's courage in coming forward, noting that her testimony had been crucial in securing the convictions.
Impact on Victim
The court heard a victim impact statement describing the profound psychological trauma inflicted on the young woman, who continues to receive specialist support services.
"The victim has shown incredible bravery throughout this investigation and subsequent court case," DI Wight stated. "I hope these convictions provide some measure of comfort and allow her to move forward with her life."
Broader Context
This case forms part of Police Scotland's ongoing efforts to combat child sexual exploitation across the country. Authorities have urged other potential victims of similar abuse to come forward, assuring them of specialist support and thorough investigation.
The sentencing sends a clear message that grooming and sexual exploitation will be met with severe consequences in Scotland's justice system.
