A 58-year-old man in Jaipur, India, whose daughter was allegedly gang raped, has been found dead, and a murder case has now been filed after his wife alleged the suspects staged the hanging to look like suicide. The man was found hanged near his home in July, according to police, three months ago.
Death threats over rape case
The man's wife has revealed the family had been receiving death threats to drop the case. She alleged that the four men accused of raping their daughter had been threatening them. The wife's complaint claims their 23-year-old daughter was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped in June.
The complaint states that one person kidnapped the girl, with three accomplices alleged, according to Times of India. Their daughter was freed two days after her disappearance and recorded statements with police. All four men were arrested after an investigation, but relatives alleged the family was constantly threatened by the accused, who reportedly wanted the case dropped. A threat was even made that they would kill the father if they did not, according to NDTV.
Murder case registered
The victim's wife accused the four suspects involved in the alleged gang rape of their daughter as the same people involved in her husband's death. She also alleged the men had staged the hanging to make it look like a suicide. While police initially registered the case as suicide, a murder case has now been registered following the complaint and is being investigated.
The suspected attack on the daughter comes after reports that a 16-year-old girl was subjected to a horrific gang rape before being thrown into a canal by two men in India. She survived after clinging to a tree branch until rescue. The attack occurred in Khurja, an Indian city approximately 55 miles southeast of Delhi. Police confirmed that on October 8 both perpetrators, who had hurled their victim into the Upper Ganga Canal, have been taken into custody. The teenager's screams echoed through the early hours of October 7, with a local resident tending to livestock spotting her gripping the branch at dawn. He contacted authorities and assisted in pulling the girl to safety, according to Times of India.
