A witness has told the High Court in Glasgow that he saw former MSP Tommy Sheridan at a swingers' club in Manchester in 2002. Tony Cumberbirch, 53, said he was working at Cupid's, a club he described as for 'wife swapping', and recalled Mr Sheridan being there with other 'drunken Scottish customers'.
Mr Cumberbirch told the court he later removed Mr Sheridan's name from the club's register at the request of a friend. He said the favour was for Robbie, not for Mr Sheridan, adding: 'I have no interest in you whatsoever.'
The witness also claimed to have seen Mr Sheridan again at a party in Wigan, but denied being offered money for his testimony or intending to go to the press. Under cross-examination by Mr Sheridan, who is representing himself, Mr Cumberbirch admitted to previous convictions including burglary and assault.
Mr Sheridan and his wife Gail are charged with perjury for allegedly lying during his 2006 defamation case against the News of the World, which he won for £200,000. The newspaper had alleged he was an adulterer who visited a swingers' club.
Two other witnesses have previously told the trial they visited Cupid's with Mr Sheridan. The trial continues.
