A Brisbane couple has appeared before the city's magistrates court facing serious charges relating to alleged child exploitation material.
William Wee, 35, and Liat Tan, 34, stood before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday to answer multiple charges that have sent shockwaves through their local community.
Detailed Charges Revealed in Court
The court heard that Wee faces two counts of possessing child exploitation material, while Tan has been charged with one count of the same offence. Both defendants are also confronting charges of making child exploitation material available online.
Police prosecutors presented their case before Magistrate Andrew Moloney, outlining the nature of the allegations that led to the couple's court appearance.
Case Adjourned for Further Investigation
Following the initial hearing, the matter has been formally adjourned until October 9th, allowing both the prosecution and defence teams time to prepare their cases thoroughly.
The defendants were granted bail under strict conditions, though specific details of these conditions were not disclosed in open court.
Ongoing Police Investigation
Queensland Police confirmed the investigation remains active, with detectives continuing to examine evidence related to the case. A police spokesperson stated that they take all matters involving child exploitation material with the utmost seriousness.
The case has highlighted the ongoing efforts by Australian authorities to combat the distribution and possession of illegal material online.
Both Wee and Tan are expected to return to the Brisbane Magistrates Court in October, when more details of the allegations may emerge during subsequent proceedings.
