A 12-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl at a playpark in Macduff, Aberdeenshire.

Incident at Duff Street park

Police Scotland launched an investigation after receiving a report of an incident in the town on Monday, August 10. The alleged assault is understood to have taken place at a park in the Duff Street area, near the town’s Community and Sports Centre.

Police Scotland confirmed to BBC Scotland that a 12-year-old boy had been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault.

Police statement

A Police Scotland spokesperson previously said: “Enquiries are ongoing following a report of the sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl in the Duff Street area of Macduff on Monday, 10 August, 2026.”

The spokesperson added: “Officers are following a positive line of enquiry.”

Next steps

Police Scotland said a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal over the incident.
