Disturbing New Details Emerge About Jeffrey Epstein's Prison Death
A newly released report has unveiled chilling new information about the moments following the death of Jeffrey Epstein in his Manhattan prison cell. The disgraced financier, who was awaiting trial for horrific sex offences, was found dead on August 10, 2019, with his death officially ruled as suicide by hanging.
The Discovery in the Cell
The report from the Metropolitan Correctional Center details what officers encountered when they discovered Epstein's body. According to the document, Epstein was found suspended from the top bunk in a near-seated position. Shockingly, his buttocks were positioned just one to one and a half inches above the floor when prison personnel arrived.
The incident unfolded during the morning shift change. At approximately 6:30am, two Special Housing Unit officers began delivering breakfast to inmates. Commanding Officer Tova Noel unlocked the door to Epstein's SHU tier, and Material Handler Michael Thomas attempted to deliver breakfast through the slot in the cell door.
Failed Checks and Falsified Records
When Epstein failed to respond to Thomas's calls, the officers opened the cell door to find the convicted paedophile hanged. Thomas immediately raised the alarm, declared a medical emergency, lowered Epstein to the floor, and initiated chest compressions.
Outside medical personnel quickly arrived on the scene and took over the emergency response. Epstein was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The report reveals significant failures in prison protocol. Prison records did not indicate when Epstein's cell was last searched prior to his death. An investigation by the Office of the Inspector General found that SHU staff had not conducted any required 30-minute rounds after approximately 10:40pm the previous night. Furthermore, none of the mandatory SHU inmate counts were performed after 4pm that day.
Systemic Failures and Forensic Evidence
Most disturbingly, the investigation discovered that slips and round sheets had been deliberately falsified to show that these essential checks had been properly conducted. This revelation points to systemic failures within the prison's monitoring procedures.
Forensic evidence from the autopsy provided additional context. Blood toxicology reports confirmed that Epstein had no medication or illegal substances in his system at the time of his death. The medical examiner who performed the autopsy informed the OIG that Epstein's injuries were consistent with suicide by hanging.
The examiner noted there was no evidence of defensive wounds that would typically indicate a homicide. Epstein displayed no marks on his hands, no broken fingernails or debris beneath them, and no contusions to his knuckles that might suggest a struggle. Other than an abrasion on his arm likely caused by convulsions from hanging, there was no bruising on his body.
Context and Aftermath
This new information emerges following the recent release of three million documents, emails, images, and videos as part of a massive Epstein Files disclosure by the US Justice Department. The revelations continue to fuel public interest and scrutiny surrounding one of the most controversial cases in recent memory.
