Man jailed for over five years for child sex offences

Robert Erdei, 22, of Leigh, was sentenced to five years and seven months in prison at Liverpool Crown Court on November 6 after pleading guilty to 22 counts of sexual offences against a child.

The offending period spanned from October 2024 to December 2024. The charges included 13 counts of sexual activity with a child, eight counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and one count of causing a child to watch a sexual act.

Arrest and investigation

Greater Manchester Police reported that Erdei was arrested on suspicion of child sex offences against a child under the age of 16 following a report by a partner agency. Investigators identified evidence of a range of sexual offending and submitted a case file to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Detective Sergeant Pyke, of the Child Protection Investigation Unit based in Wigan, said: "My thoughts remain with the survivor concerned in this horrific case and their family. Erdei has showed clear intent and wilfully engaged in sexual offending against the most vulnerable of victims, a child."

DS Pyke added: "Protecting children will always be the highest priority at GMP and we will always take the strongest possible action where allegations of this nature are made."
